Disinfecting house after cat with disease passed away?
Hello, unfortunately my kitten was put to sleep yesterday, because he had a very severe disease, Feline Panleukopenia. And had a very slim- to no chance of survival. I was told to disinfect everywhere in my house my kitten has been. I was told to use bleach. But I was wondering if Resolve: Triple Action spray would work. Thanks -Aimee Yes, the vet told me to use bleach. And thank you, and I know he's in a better place now : )

- Unless you're getting another cat this disease is not communicable to humans so I don't understand the need to disinfect everything. However, if you do plan to get another cat, I hope you get one that is already vaccinated to avoid any possible chance of contamination. Additionally, you need to use a cleaner that is anti-viral, so unless Resolve has the ingredients needed to do the job you should stick with the Clorox.
- Was it the vet that recommended bleach? If so I would use bleach in all areas that I could. Obviously bleach isn't ok for all surfaces - ask your vet if Resolve is ok or if they recommend something stronger. I'm sorry for your loss!
- you need to use bleach to clean with, not straight bleach though, a 1 part bleach to 9 parts water solution. clean all areas that you can with that, floors & hard surfaces, and wash bedding with a bleach alternative in hot water.
- I'm sorry for your loss. I don't think resolve has any anti-viral qualities. I would stick to bleach water like the vet recommended. It really doesn't take much bleach. A tablespoon for a conventional 32oz spray bottle works. You also want to make sure you let it sit for about 10 minutes then wipe it down.
- The Feline Panleukopenia is distemper and yes it can live in the environment for years. It's a very stable virus. Any new cat coming in needs to already be vaccinated for distemper at least 14 days prior to coming into the house. That's how long the vaccine needs to fully protect the cat. But once vaccinated they will be ok by you. I'm sorry you lost your cat to this. It's not easy coping with that.
