What is the best way to care for a stray cat who is possibly nursing kittens?
The plan is to trap the cat and her kittens using a humane trap and send them all to a foster care organization. Until we can find the kittens, what should I feed her and how much/how often? I've been giving her about 2 cups of cat chow and 1 can of cat food. Thanks for any advice!

- That's way too much food. 1 cup of cat food or better yet, food for kittens and nursing cats is more than enough. Cats can take care of themselves, but if you want to feed her that's kind.
- The best way to care for any cat is to love, and care for it. You must feed it reguarly and water it as well. you must also show that you care about it by petting it and playing with it quite regularly
- Feed her kitten food. Also you want to feed her as much as she wants to eat. She needs all the nutrients she can get right now. Just so your aware, she also needs to get a rabies vaccine as soon as possible as you are now liable if she bites someone now that you are feeding her. Call your vet to get more information
- We had a stray up into our porch and we feed her till the kittens were gone about six weeks, she never came to us with the kittens so your best bet is to try and get her some place safe after she has stoped nursing.
- christ!! your feeding her and the kittens there!! i did something similar i would advise you fed her one tin of wet food suitable for lactating females per day and plenty of water (NO MILK)and place a cardboard box in you garden. She may well bring her kittens to you! HOPE THAT HELPED
- FEED HER KITTEN FOOD It has more nutrients and stuff for growth.
