My cat is sick, and drooling alot.?
Hello, I just took my cat to the vet because she is sick. The symptoms are she is lethargic, not eating and drooling ALOT, and licking her mouth. The Vet ran bloodwork and said her stats looked good. He thinks its just a irritateed GI track but she seems awfully sick for that. She isnt vomimting but hasnt eaten much but will drink a lil bit of water. They gave me some syrup medication to help her stomach. Does this sound right? She is 4yrs old female and spayed. No previous health problems. =(

- If you feel the vet is wrong, go to another vet!
- hi, tyler; the meds you were given should do the job; just follow the directions on label. if then she is not well, you can return to the vet for further analysis. best wishes to you both!
- Did the vet check her mouth for dental or oral issues? That would be the first thing I'd have checked -- any cat that has dental/oral issues will drool, won't feel like eating, and will feel pretty lethargic. Cats will lick their mouths a lot when dehydrated. I've included a link you might find helpful. http://www.vetinfo4cats.com/cdrool.html
- How long has this been happening? How horrible for you. Sounds to me as if she may have ingested poison or has a foreign object irritating her salivary glands ? Poison usually wont have symptoms that persist over days, unfortunately the moggie usually succumbs to the toxin within 12 to 24 hours. But if a fish bone is in your moggies throat or some other unsavory place of lodgement, this drooling and lack of appetite plus little bits of water would be the signs I'd be looking for. Did your vet check your moggie over completely? In the throat nose ears ? Try to gently look for yourself, you never know you may find a simple bone stuck behind it's back teeth that is irritating the poor pus's gag reflex. Makes for a very sad looking puss that just needs help with its flossing. Good luck and if you are wondering, it makes good sense to get more that one professional opinion, go see another vet just because you can.
