question regarding cat health?
i know my daughter in law posted a question not long ago about her cat peeing on her bed. someone suggested butter on the cats feet as a way to clean and relax (it didn't work). the cats been moved quite frequently. and spent sometime riding cross country in a big truck. but the cat also vomits frequently. he was vetted just before they moved here to TN and had a UTI which has cleared up. the cat is about 2 1/2 yrs, and she got him from a pet store (yuck i know, but she didn't know how bad that could be). he's never been tested for Feline Leukemia. he has a beautiful velvety coat. what are the symptoms for Fe. luke? we're going to have some blood work etc done, but right after the holidays plus my car breaking down, has limited our funds until next week. he doesn't seem distressed. eating and drinking normally. other than fe. luke, what should i ask my vet to test for? the cat has never been outside except on a leash when they were in the truck. he's not in a truck anymore. they moved here a few weeks before Christmas. and "K" keeps the litter box immaculate. because he also used MY bed as a litter box, he's now restricted to their room.

- Cats like people don't like change and can get motion sickness. Try moving it less and stop putting butter on its feet-ick!. Get it up to date on all of its shots and vaccinations too. When you have to travel with it make sure to covere the carrier so that it feels secure and safe (make sure it has room to breathe and turn around though) and stop feeding it a couple hours before so that it doesn't get sick. Cats are sensitive creatures, they don't like to share litter boxes, food, water, etc. That was the problem with one of my cats. Google feline leukemia to check symptoms but stop moving it around all the time. They DON'T like change.
- Cats with Feline Leukemia often have sudden weight loss, lack of appetite, lethargy, and cold-type symptoms. Vomitting can also be a sign of internal parasites (worms), obstruction in the bowels (maybe he ate some string or something), hairballs, etc. In fact, vomitting on its own can be a sign of a lot of things (including an allergic reaction to his food). The best advice I can give is to give your vet a complete run down of what is going on and let him advise as to what tests should be done. You may want to collect a fecal sample prior to your vet visit in case they want to check for parasites - this will save you a step. Good luck!
- Butter on the cats feet??? When the vets does a blood test for FeLeuk, it will also test for FIV. Has the cat spent alot of time outside? Been in cat fights? If not I doubt it has either one of those. There usually aren't any symptoms until they very ill from either virus. I feel the cats are way over stressed. If the UTI has cleared up I see no reason to get a full blood work up which can be very expensive. The FIV/FeLeuk tests are about $40. If the vet gives the cats a clean bill of health I would limit them to a room with food, water, litter box, toys, bed, etc and allow them to settle in and be comfortable. Be sure calm people spend time with them in that room and play. When they seem 100% relaxed open the door and allow then to explore, but always have that room available to them as a safe place.
- Most likely, it's just taking the cat a while to get used to his new surroundings. It can take a cat up to 6 months to feel comfortable in a new home. Its either territorial issues he's having or he could have recurring UTIs (one of my cats has UTIs...about two a year.) Have a vet look at him again (and if funds are low, most vets will be happy to make a payment plan for you.) Hopefully it's just something you'll have to wait out (though there are many new herbal supplements that you can give a cat to help them calm down...I wouldn't administer any of that stuff without consulting your vet.) I give my cats glucosamine chrondrotin daily; my vet seems to think it also has some good effects on cats' bladders and will prevent future UTIs. Again, don't try to diagnose anything without the consultation of a vet. Don't worry about those other cat illnesses just yet. Worrying doesn't help solve anything. Good luck!
- Feline leukemia means the cat is open to many other diseases. The lymph glands are usually swollem is one of the main signs. It can also lead to tumours. For the peeing problem. Buy 2 medium size bottles of spring water and lay them on the bed. Cats will never pee where there is a bottle of water. It's something to do with the reflection. Vomiting could be worms or parasites. There are other conditions that cause this but the cat is quite young so it is not likely to be those. Sometimes with diabetes this happens.
- I have had cats longer than I care to say. A velvety coat means he is a cleaning more and sometimes they need some meds to help move the fur balls through either end. Feline Luekemia took my baby 'so big' was my 1st wolf dogs kitty. They stop eating and drinking and become lethargic his black coat went dim from its generally black coat. He probably hears all those dogs around and a new home with new people and other cats. He NOW he has a nervous tummy hopefully. He is so stressed. Any new change in food?
- ok this cat is actually mine. and he started throwing up about a year ago. i have changed his food and now have him on meow mix wholesome goodness formula. he has been on that over 2 months (probably more like 3 months) and has rarely puked since then. i thought that he might just have a sensitive tummy to the dyes that they put in most cat foods. and due to some unfortunate circumstances i had to leave him with a friend for 2 months last year (my friend stayed at my place while i was gone). and right before i left he started peeing on the bed or piles of clothes or bedding/towels on the floor. the butter thing came from a guy who suggested doing that to cause him to start Grooming and comfort himself. and i tried it and it really didn't do anything. at one time the peeing on the bed got so bad that he was peeing on the blankets while i was sleeping (between my legs at the foot area of the bed). but he hasn't done that in a very long time. he also only pees on blanket and sheet covered beds, never on a bare mattress. i have even caught him in the act Twice. and im not sure what else i can do about it. i have changed laundry detergent and have rubbed his nose in it and scolded him. even locked him in a large crate both after the act and when i have had to leave for long periods of time. but that didn't help. but back to the vomit issue. his breed is an snow shoe, if that helps anyone.which is a mix between Siamese and a bicolour American Shorthair. he also makes a low mewl/howl (almost like a siamese cat in heat) right before he throws up. im greatful i at least get a warning so that way i can get him off the carpet or furniture before he vomits. if you have any ideas i would apreciate it. and i do plan on getting him to the vets as soon as i can. thank you all for your help. also i have not found any edvidence of pests in his stools.
