My cat has constant health issues. I've been looking into purchasing health insurance. Any recommendations?
Every now and then my cat will develop symptoms of kidney disease and its been real expensive to have him treated. I've considered purchasing health insurance for him but don't know which one I should go with. Which is better and why?

- pet insurance will only benefit you past a certain amount of money...just like with people, you have to pay a deductible, so if you aren't spending more than that in a year, you wouldn't benefit from purchasing it...you'll pay more in insurance fees each month than your cat...check out the insurance premiums and the deductibles...it may not be worth it.
- Petplan, this insurance has been great for me VERY sadly my dog died and they pay back the excact amount you pay for the animal inc all vet care within 7 - 10 days.. They also give you the first 2 months free insurance and always have special deals to give you longer periods of time after this free trial you only pay 7.50 a month so its a great deal look on google and put petplan. I hope your cats gets better =]
- Most health insurance policies, animal or human, do not cover pre-existing conditions.
- most pet health insurance policies are scams, unless your paying quite a bit for it (some of the higher priced ones are decent). all of the pet health insurance forms i have seen and filled out will not cover a pre-existing condition such as kidney trouble. i also read one insurance plan that wouldn't cover anything bilateral... if there was a problem with a knee, then it wouldn't cover it because in theory there could be the same problem with the other knee (stupid huh?). look into different plans, and call around and ask different vets in your area who offers the best coverage.
- It's quite likely that any pet insurance you would get at this point would not cover a pre-existing condition, unfortunately. Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) is the oldest and largest in the United States, and I know they do have pre-existing condition restrictions. Cats may have kidney issues if they are fed dry food. You may want to consider changing your cat to a quality meat canned (or raw) food. Fed adequate nutrition, your cat will be much healthier, and you may not have to worry about unusual veterinary expense.
- I wouldn't both with health insurance. Either find out what is wrong with the cat and continue treating and paying, or maybe you need to look at another option?
- You probably will not find a health insurance that is willing to cover your pet if it has preexisting conditions.
- Until recently, I didn't even know such a thing existed. I sure wish I would of because my 5 year old male cat just ended up with urinary tract problems and the vet bills are up to $2000. So, unless you can afford this sort of unexpected cost I would definately recommend it! : )
