what is feline lower urinary tract disease?

my cat had blood in her urine so i took her to the vets and they sent that out and there was no bacteria/infection or crystals. i have to take her back tuesday for blood work. when the vet called to tell me the urine test results, she said she think its that disease. so what is it? she mentioned changing a diet and adding a supplement so i'm guessing it's not debilitating. my cat isn't even 3 yet and i want her to be happy.

1. It's a chronic urinary diseases that cats can get. Male cats are more prone to it than female cats. Buy cat food that has low ph and magneasium levels. Some cat food will say it's good for preventing the disease, and are good too. Keep an eye on her, because she's prone to it and will probably get it again. If you don't, she could die from it.
2. Although a urinalysis is the first thing a vet will do for bloody urine, if it came back clean, you should really have an x-ray taken. Cats can have stones in thir bladder, that can cause bloody urine, and there may be no evidence on the urinalysis. Also, there are some stones that aren't visible on an x-ray, and the only ways to identify those is through an ultrasound. Because your cat is so young, it would be worth looking into the possibility of stones, and the first step is definetly an x-ray! 3. FLUTS is inflammation of the urinary tract including the bladder and urethra. It is usually idiopathic (no known cause). Get her on an acidifying or low magnesium diet. Royal Canin SO or Hills C/D Avoid stress ( changing litter box location, new pets) Get a water fountain so the cat has a constant water source. Keep the litter box clean to discourage inappropriate elimination. Get Cosequin for cats which is an excellent supplement for cats with FLUTS. Butorpohanol is an analgesic that can be used when the cat is extremely uncomfortable. FLUTS is a disease that a cat lives with.
