Are there any Canadians here that can dispel the myths about Universal Health Care? Many Americans have the wrong idea about your system. Can you help to dispel these myths? You have to wait months for cat scans. Health care raises your taxes way up, and any other thing that you can add to the discussion would be appriciated.

Why do Europeans care what kind of health care we have in the United States? Seriously? Whats the difference to you? 95% of Americans are happy with the level of care they get in the country. - and the millions of your citizens who fly to America every year to have surgery or get treatment of some sort appear to happy with it as well. 60% are happy with their "health plan". Which is to say that only 40% of Americans dont like what they have to pay but are still fully satisfied with the level of care. While our system needs some tweeking, it is still the best in the world. No country comes close. But again, who cares. What we do over here has no impact on you people. Except when you consider all of the state-of-the-art medical equipment the American system has provided to the world. You know: X Rays, MRI's, CAT Scans, telescopic surgery, etc. Our "greedy" system was able to invent these things because our system works. Without us you wouldnt have any of this stuff. So instead of bashing our system - which to most Americans looks like nothing more
Hi,I am new to cat care and am wondering if Vets charge to have a cats illness/injury diagnosed in the UK? Apparently acording to law if a cat or other animal is suspected to be in ill health or suffering one way or another then a visit to the vet is mandatory because if the animal suffers then this is in violation of one law or another(I forget the laws)? So if it is illegal not to seek help, then do vets charge for diagnosis or not?
how to get cheap health care for a pet? my children took in a stray cat and i hate to turn it back out but unless i find somewhere cheap to get her checked out im going to have to. any advice?
The cat loving community on Answers hates me and now I have problems with little old ladies, what should I do? I asked a generic question about my cat's health and made an off-handed comment that I didn't like the cat. This resulted in some curt responses. I tried to reach out to the cat community with my cat care credentials and made another off-handed remark about sweet, little old ladies that have 40 cats in their garage (typically not receiving the best of care I might add) and now I have got myself in hot water with old ladies. Please advise. Is there any way I can redeem myself with both groups?
I think i know how to fix the Canadian health care system!? There should be free health care access for basic health care needs like seeing the doctor, but things like Cat scan which require a waiting list should be private or public. What i mean is there should be atleast 4 hospital around the province which will offer it for the the private people who do not want to wait for their turn on the waiting list and all the other hospitals should keep it public for the people who want to wait for their turn on the cat scan or any other medical device that requires a waiting list.
What is the Perpet-U-Care program for Senior Cats? I've heard the Perpet-U-Care program pays for cats over ten's health care but can't find any info over the net for this. Does anyone know anything about this?
Is there a reason why some one would respond to my question about my cat with such a negative attitude? I was negligent in reporting in my answer that my vet said, "I don't think it is a problem or anything serious." I was insulted by the last answer that implied that I was negligent in the health care of my cat. I understand how that could be misconstrued. I do not understand why some one would be so focused on hurting the feelings of someone who cares enough about a cat to ask a serious question in an open forum. My vet did not have a satisfactory answer for me over the past few years of this symptom and I needed help. This seemed like a good venue for information. I was looking for some way to respond to the last responder and let it be known that I do properly care for and love my cat and have always provided responsible health care on a regular basis for all of my cats. Is there a way to respond to this person with the above answer to my question regarding the raised black spots on my cat's gum line which have been multiplying for about two years? TY 2 those who help
first time cat owner. what do i have to do? vet care? i just got a kitten, already learned about the litter box. (just a bit of info on his background) his mother suddenly rejected him so my friend gave it to me. hes about 6-7 weeks old. what should i do about his health care? what should i ask for when i go to the vet for the first time? do i need to do some sort of overall checkup besides the vaccines? i worry because i think he breathes really fast as he sleeps(am i overeacting?) any help would be apreciated. thanks. one more question.... about how much will it cost? and i kind of remember seeing some sort of health care plan for cats that you pay monthly. whats that for?
My cat has been under Holistic care for Cancer as well as other health issues? I've had awesome success with my kitty, Fuzz, who was supposed to be dead 4 years ago. The regular vet told me it would be $2,000 for colon surgery and she couldn't even tell me whether Fuzz would survive the surgery. I went home, cried and started looking up alternative therapies. I found Amy Hanson who does biofeedback via a computerized system (I simply bring in some of Fuzz's fur and she is able to analyze Fuzz's thoughts and feelings, etc. which is great since Fuzz doesn't speak English). Over the course of four years, Amy has saved Fuzz over a half dozen times. Once Fuzz got bit by a poison spider and I fed Fuzz whatever herbal remedies I had of Amy's on hand. Just an amazing treatment! I highly recommend bio feedback so you can a) find out what's really wrong with your pet and b) get it treated safely with herbs. Fuzz is getting older and lately I notice she is fast approaching the winter of her life span but I am very grateful for the extra four years. LadyFarinColorad
How do you care for a 2 year old Shitzu Dog? I'm going to get a 2 year old Shitzu dog, that has been very well taken care of by a family. My concerns are the following: 1.) How will a male cat and a girl dog shitzu get along? 2.) When leaving the house should I cage her or block off an area for her because she's so active? 3) When leaving the house should I put paper down just in case? Accidents can happen. 4) Over all health care. Bath, teeth, ears, hair cuts, well visits. 5) How to controll barking at doorbells and people 6) Should I take to a trainer 7) When to give doggie treats 8) Adjusting to a new family And anything I might of missed. I really would like to get this right the 1st time around. And give this dog the best home ever. Help please......
Is there an organization that will take a cat in and take care of it because the owner can no longer take care She's (the cat) is about 14 years old, once in a while will run outside but usually turns right around and comes back in. Seems to be in good health and is still active. A little afraid of people, we got her when she was a grown feral cat, just walked in the house like she owned it. Has been fixed and only eats Friskies Turkey and Giblets Senior.I would be more than willing to pay for the upkeep and care of her. Her name is Pretty, a gray tabby. I am in the Sacramento, CA area.
How Can Obama Supporters Say Hillary Failed with Universal Health Care? Hillary is the leading expert on Universal Health care in the USA. As a First Lady she outlined a brilliant program -- but it didn't not pass. That's not a friggin failure. I've always learned when something is the right, don't give up. So to listen to people that really are so nasty, and seem to have a limited knowledge of political history say, Hillary is the expert and one who will make Universal Health Care happen and make it affordable. Obama is a copy cat. Obama will lose the GE. A legitimate Black candidate who really has worked hard for people in the USA will come up. Obama will be an insignificant Senator then fade into oblivion. Sometimes charismatic people who are basically all ego and strategy with no real commitment to help people prevail -- Bush. Obama wants to be Bush. I want change, and Obama is a fraud. I'd rather have McCain. Obama is more like Bush than McCain. BO is not change we can believe in... He's a con artist who supporters are nasty smear monger.
I need suggestions to get my cat back to better health.? She's about 14 years old, and I love her to death!!! Her name is Nanner. Anyway, she is an outside/inside cat, but lately she's been outside a lot. I've been in the same place, away from the city and in the country, ever since I've had her. In the winter she gains weight just fine and does good. But in the summer it gets bad. This time, it's the worst yet. She doesn't ever eat when she comes in, and I don't know if she's getting water out where she runs around. I'm not sure if she's getting sick; I'm out of town and I'm having a friend take care of her. Nanner always gets down when I'm gone, but all she's been doing is sleeping and not eating. I haven't gone to the vet; it's expensive and I know it's worth it, but I just can't. What can i do to get her to eat? I'll call up my friend and tell him.
How large a dose of radiation is given off by the average CAT scan? I once broke my leg and was given a CAT scan, even though a regular X-ray had revealed it to be a clean break. I was distraught on finding that the machine seemed to be on for five to ten minutes. Even one still picture seems to contain much more gamma radiation than would be taken in due to natural exposure by the body. I later asked this question of an employee of a local synchrotron plant, which professes to specialize in concentrating beams of radiation so that they only hit a very tiny and minimal part of the body, thus doing less damage. The employee said he did not know because he was not a health care professional. I would like to know the answer expressed in commonly used units of radiation.
question for physiotherapist, neurologist, chiropractor, or other health care pro re: knee/toe numbness/pain.? Okay, so I SHOULD know this as I am also a health care professional...but hear me out. Eversince I was pregnant with my daughter (in the last couple months...she was born two months ago, so this is going on for about four months now, getting increasingly worse) I have felt a stabbing pain in the antero-lateral aspect of my right knee, along with a stretching & stabbing pain in my right hallux (feels as tho the tendon of extensor hallicus longus is being stretched beyond it's limits sometimes). I have gone to the doctor and they don't know what's wrong. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Basically the knee pain is absolutely horrid at times! It's a combination of feeling like there is something in there that is ripping, and stabbing as well as numbness on the skin in the area where it hurts. the pain goes from about the antero-superior portion of the lateral condyle of the tibia to the head of the fibula. What do you suggest for dx, tx, etc? Thanks Merlin the Cat.
Is diarrhea one of the side effects of urinary tract health food for cats? Our cat had a urinary blockage a few months back and at our vet's suggestion we purchased Purina One's Urinary Tract Health Formula. This took care of his strained (sometimes non-existent) urination, but he has now developed fairly frequent diarrhea. He doesn't exhibit any other signs of distress/illness, so I'm fairly convinced that this isn't the sign of something more serious. I'm wondering how serious the diarrhea itself is and if there's anything simple we can do to treat it. I have considered switching the food, which I'll try after this batch runs out. Thanks in advance! This isn't the recalled food. It's dry food, and to the best of my knowledge, the recall is for wet food only. Plus, the Purina One brand wasn't affected. Thanks for the answer though.
Does anyone have any home medicine tips for cats? I have 7 adult, short haired, indoor cats that adopted me a few years ago, and now that I am semi-retired, I have the time to take better care of my 'friends'. Does anyone out there in the Yahoo Community have any tried and proven home health care tips for cats? All my guys and gals are over the 8 human years mark and by knowing as many home health tips for cats, I can save some money by not going to the vet. If a serious medical condition did develop with any of my cats, I will be the first one to get them to my vet, ASAP, but what I am looking for are non-life threatening types of home remedies that other cat owners have used on their pets and solved whatever problem their beloved cats were having. Anyone have any useful health tips you can pass on to me? Thank you in advance!
Allied Health Care Professionals!!!! Need your advice and expertise. Serious Answers only!? I am 34 with a BS in Liberal Studies/Biology. I am thinking about switching careers, and I am highly interested in pursuing a career in the allied health field. I am particularly interested in nursing, nuclear medicine, sonography, and radiology (CAT scans and MRI). If you work in any of these professions, please tell why you chose that profession, pros/cons of job, beginning salaries, average salaries, opportunity for growth, any preferred medical specialities, as well as anything you wished you knew about the profession before you started, but have learned in the workplace or through experience. I have already checked out websites such as monster, american medical association...Thanks for the help and consideration!
Animal health care laws? Can the Vet be held responsible? A friend of mine brought her kitten into the vet, because someone stepped on him. There didnt seem to be any serious harm done, but he was breathing a little hard. The vet said that he was in shock, and would keep him overnight for observation. He gave him two shots, of darvanx? or something that sounds like that. My friend didn't have the money to pay the vet, at the time (didn't plan for an emergency visit). So the vet kept the cat for a week. Saturday morning she picked up the kitten. His stomach was grossly distended, like he had worms, but the vet said that he wormed him. He didnt comment on what could have caused the cat's stomach to be distended like that. He gave the kitten a clean bill of health. Sunday morning, he had died in his sleep. The vet says that the kitten probably just had a heartattack, and takes absolutely no responsibility in the kittens death. Why would he have released him if there was probelm? What can we do? Can the vet be held responsible?
I prefer United States health care, how about you? Canada’s health-care isn’t looking healthy Editor: Lebanon Daily News Lebanon Daily News Here’s an update on the state of Canadian health care. The Fraser Institute, a Canadian research organization, has released a 90-page report on the waiting times to receive care under Canada’s National Health System in 2006. Average overall wait time for all services, which has increased every year, is now at 17.8 weeks or 91 percent longer than in 1993. Those patients who survived waited 31.7 weeks to be treated by a neurosurgeon; 40.4 weeks to receive care from an orthopedic surgeon; and even 5 weeks for radiation oncology. And if the doctor orders diagnostic or therapeutic technology, there is an additional wait ranging from 10.3 weeks for an MRI to 4.3 weeks for a CT scan. The report is online at http://www.fraserinstitute.ca. But the picture gets worse. Canada’s medical equipment is in short supply, and much of it is old and obsolete. On a per-capita basis, the United States has eight times more MRI units; seven times more radiation-therapy units; six times more lithotripsy units and three times more open-heart units than Canada. There are more MRI scanners in Washington state (population 4.6 million) than in Canada (population 26 million). The National Center for Policy Analysis reports “The Canadian Association of Radiologists says that up to half of all radiology services in Canada ranging from ultrasounds to CAT scans, could be shut down unless outdated and dangerous equipment is replaced immediately.” These are the facts that some misguided souls do not want U.S citizens to know. This is the inevitable result of socialized medicine — rationing and deterioration in the quality of care. We have the finest health care in the world, and many Canadians come here rather than wait in their NHS lines. Why would anyone want to trade our health-care system for one like Canada’s? Tell your state and national lawmakers that you are not interested in universal or single-payer health care or Medicare-for-all because these are just cover names for what is really socialized medicine. There are some problems with our system, but they are fixable if only the various factions, including the medical providers, would stop blaming each other and address the shortcomings in their own areas. Anyone who thinks that the folks who are responsible for Walter Reed Hospital should be in charge of our medical care is in serious need of psychological help. But they better get it in the U.S., because the wait time in Canada for this service is 41⁄2 months. Stan Alekna Cornwall

Any tips on long term care for skeletal problems in scottish fold felines? I adoped a 9 year old Male Scottish Fold 6 months ago. I recently found out he has Skeltal abnormalites. This is caused by the gene causing the folded ear trait, it is a dominant gene which causes skeletal problems if the cat inherits two copies of the gene. In most cases this happens when inbreeding occurs or when breeding two folds. Signs of skeltal abnormalites are a thickened tail caused by tail vertebrae fusing and thickened legs with swollen feet due to overgrowth of cartilage around the paws. These side-effects cause problems with walking, But in most cases it don't affect the cats overall health. Can anyone tell me any tips on proper long term care???
Does anyone else think it is necessary to take my cat to the vet? Well, just for some background info, my dad is a mental case piece of shhhh*t. Last night he let my one year old house cat outside, without telling anyone. Well, he locked her out. We looked around for her last night and today, but didn't think TOO much of it, as sometimes she's kind of shy. Well, today my mom heard meowing by the window, so she looked out and there was my cat. It's been pouring in buckets today, and it was drizzling last night. She was soaked, freezing cold, and probably was like that since last night. She also has not been spayed yet, and a local vet told us recently that FIV (like HIV, except cats) is very common among the stay cats in this area. My dad is beign a jerk, as always, and my mom (even though she was kind of upset) does not think my cat's health is a concern at all. I really think she should be taken to the vet, just to be safe. Does anyone agree? I can't believe she (my mom) acts like she doesn't care..
Government health care - what this is really about? For 50 years the Left had its New Deal - disguised as a program to help the needy, this was a game of economic chairs - yes there were handouts but they were paid for via a graduated tax system the macroeconomic effect of which was to prevent most people from getting ahead, thus keeping them dependent on these handouts. For 25 years we've chipped away at this - we've cut the marginal rates on individuals' wages and their investment income and enlarged deductions and reduced rates for businesses. The result is that the proportion of the population that is financially independent of government - that is not one bad event away from needing one of those handouts - has grown dramatically. The Leftists have fought this every step of the way and failed. They realize that it is too late to put this cat back in the bag. They cannot reverse history. They cannot put us back into a situation where a majority of us are financially dependent upon government thus forced to vote for government largesse. They cannot make it the case that for most of us, one bad event puts us on the dole. But it remains the case that any of us, at any time, could become sick or injured, and so they are attempting to use that potential dependence, rather than financial dependence or the threat of it, as their leverage to grow government and to foster dependence upon it. Outcrop the health insurance companies will be the beneficiaries of government-run healthcare - - - they will get new subscribers whose bills will be paid on time - just not by those subscribers, rather by the rest of us. My 16 yr old cat is in fair health, but vocalizes A LOT. Any ideas why? For a venerable cat, he's doing pretty well. He's missing quite a few teeth, and has pretty much lost most of his hearing. Hey, he's OLD...whaddya expect? He is hyper-thyroid but consistently medicated for the condition. He also gets food additives to help with his urination and to maintain comfort against arthritic-type pains. We know he has seperation issues. We got him "second hand" and he was already well into his adult life. We take exceptional care of him, we give him as much attention as he'll take when we're around (both of us work days). He gets fed plenty. We let him outside every day multiple times a day. But when he notices us, say he walks into the room, he'll immediately start in meowing. It ranges from simple meows to all out yowling until we pick him up and cuddle him and rub his tummy. Is this just an attention thing? Boredom? I suspect he might be very insecure about his hearing loss, yet it doesn't seem to keep him from exploring when he goes outside. Any ideas?
I have just been dx with breast CA. I am Canadian. could I move back to Canada for free health care? I have been in the states for over 20 years. I have insurance but it is 70/30. I have a feeling this is going to be very costly and I have no family members to move in with should I lose the house. Plus, I have two dogs, two cats. My job can move with me (medical transcriptionist and work via broadband).
why do people feel the need to answer every question with get your cat fixed.? i understand that there are way to many cats in the world but what right do people have to badger others to get their pets fixed. it makes me mad that when you ask a question and really need a answer people come up with fix your pet. I feel that if you have a health cat and you have the means to take care of it and find a good home for the kittens and you know what your doing that you should be able to breed your pets. I just bred my cat with my mothers cat, she has had the father and grandfather from the male she has now, and i want a baby from my cat,(and for all you people out there the cats are not related). so my question again is why do you feel the need to tell people to fix their animals. what right do you have? maybe when people go to a fertility clinic we should tell them no! go have a homeless baby.....there are a lot of those homeless also thank you all for your opinion, and for a answer to you i worked with animals all my life. and by the way i have had all my other animals fixed and my mom cat who had 2 babys is getting fixed in 3 weeks.
Are white cats more prone to health problems? I am thinking about getting a new kitten. This one kitten that i'm interested in is all white. The only thing is I don't have enough money to take care of a constantely sick cat. So if white cats are more prone to health problems could someone tell me if they are and what kind of sickness they are more likely to get. (ex. deafness, blindness...etc.)
Losing my health care support....? I am HIV positive,HepC positive,I suffer severe depression and migraines. In the past S weeks my cat of 16 yrs died in my arms,1 week later my friend from highschool overdosed on crack then my grand mother died.If thats not enough,I had to cancel some appts.! with my drug councellor and the other with my therapist.I also had to cancel with my therapist 1 week before cause I got the flu shot and got sooo sick.Anyways they both have accussed me of lying and being on drugs.I have to see these people cause I' m on probation. What do I do?I am not on drugs?Do I offer a blood test? This stress is bad for my health.Therapy is suppose to help?
Health Care? many patients will not be able to afford procedures(ie cat scans or MRI's ) which may have the potential to enhance the quality of his/her life. Any thoughts?
What are the 10 most important things to know (diet, health, comfort, etc) about looking after a kitten/cat? I have had to take over the care and maintence of a kitten/small cat which was originally given to My next door neighbour's Grand-children. They were feeding it boiled rice and corn flakes in milk. It was left outside in the cold (I 'savlaged' it during a thunderstorm) in a cardboard box with a string around "It's" neck. The thing seems to be quite happy with Me. I have not given "It" a name yet because I had no intention or keeping "It'. The trouble is that the children have returned to Their parents (not cat owners) and I have been left holding the bag, so to speak. "It" is a black and white female and seems to be growing after every meal. I just give "It" (I really will have to give "It" a name, won't I?) water instead of milk and table scraps (mince, sausage, steak and canned sardines etc.). The thing is about 10 inches long (nose to base of the tail) and would appear to be healthy enough, albeit it always seems to be hungry. It has a ball to play with. What do I need to know?
